Lesson 3 Quiz - Part A

What Is a Delta-Plus Analysis?

A Delta-Plus Analysis is a reflective tool used to evaluate a situation by identifying:

  • Plus (+): What went well or what should be continued

  • Delta (Δ): What needs to change or improve

This method encourages balanced reflection, helping educators grow through constructive self-assessment.

Lesson 3 Quiz - Part B

Read each scenario and enter your analysis of each scenario in the responses  below .

📚 Scenario 1: Passive Learning Through Lecture

Mr. Thompson delivers a 45-minute lecture to his 7th-grade class about the causes of the American Revolution. Students are expected to take notes silently the entire time. No questions are asked, and students are not given opportunities to discuss, reflect, or apply the content. Several students appear disengaged—some put their heads down, while others doodle in their notebooks. At the end of class, Mr. Thompson assigns a worksheet without checking for understanding.

Delta-Plus Prompt:
Using a delta-plus analysis, what could Mr. Thompson change (Δ) to increase engagement and ensure students are processing the material actively? What, if anything, was effective and worth continuing or building upon (+)?

📚 Scenario 2: Overuse of Whole-Class Instruction

Ms. Rivera introduces a new math concept—fractions—by demonstrating several examples on the board. She asks the class, “Does everyone get it?” and, after receiving a few nods, moves on. No guided or independent practice is provided during class. During the next day’s quiz, more than half the class fails to solve the basic problems, and several students express confusion and frustration.

Delta-Plus Prompt:
Using a delta-plus analysis, identify what Ms. Rivera could change (Δ) to improve student understanding and assess learning before moving on. What part of her approach was helpful or promising (+), even if limited in effectiveness?
